Town Hall with LGBTQ Immigrants

November 15th, 2018 @ 18:30

Shorefront Y, 3300 Coney Island Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11235

We thank our ally RusaLGBT for the organization this event “Town Hall” on LGBTQ Immigrants issues. There were presenters from Nycchr and Voices4_.

Participants discussed such challenges for LGBTQI community as discrimination on sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics; issues involving immigrants in sex work, problems of hard drugs, loneliness, lack of emotional support, lack of psychological assistance resources for immigrants, internal homophobia, transphobia, and Intersex phobia, using discriminatory language and challenges of communication with New York police.

There were some suggestions: more educational events on LGBTQI and immigrants issues, advocacy work on the local level and study of LGBTQI immigrants’ needs for improving services. Our team was glad to be a part of this interesting and important discussion. Our activist asked about protection Intersex people and their patients’ rights.

We hope that such events will become more in different ethnic communities of immigrants of NYC and other American cities.
